Sheet sets, links and review
Sheet sets and AutoMark, links between sheets, review packages, submittal stamps, as-built and record drawings.
Index drawing sets by sheet number, jump between sheets through links, send review packages to consultants and merge their comments back, stamp submittals, and turn field redlines into record drawings.
Sheet sets
A sheet set indexes drawing files by sheet number and title, knows which revision of each sheet is current and which are superseded, and lets links find sheets by number. Open it with View → Sheet sets (or the Sheet sets button on the left rail).
How to read sheet numbers with AutoMark
- Open the drawing set and choose Document → AutoMark… (also in the Sheet sets panel).
- Tell it where the title block text is, on one page:
- Sheet number: Find looks for a number at the same spot on every page; or Pick and drag a box around the sheet number.
- Sheet title and Revision: Pick and drag a box.
- Or use Existing bookmarks ("E100 - Title") instead of regions.
- Read all pages. The same regions are read on every page (from the text layer, or from AutoCAD SHX text). Check the list of sheet numbers and titles.
- Choose the Sheet set (or a new one) and the Issue / revision. Tick Write page labels (sheet numbers), Write bookmarks (by discipline) and, if you like, Replace existing bookmarks.
- Apply, then save the PDF. Labels and bookmarks are appended to the file when you save; use Save as to keep the original file unchanged.
Working with the set
- Search by sheet number or title; click a sheet to open it.
- Add revision… adds newer files using the set's AutoMark regions. Older sheets with the same numbers become superseded and show a SUPERSEDED banner with Open current.
- Tick Superseded to list old revisions too. Keep this one as current / Let revisions decide override which file counts as current.
- Save set to file / Open set file (.icosset.json) share a set with colleagues; Export CSV writes the sheet index.
- Removing a set or a file from a set never touches the PDF files.
Links between sheets
- Links already in the PDF work: click to follow.
- The Link tool (Insert group) makes your own link to a page, a sheet number or a web address.
- Document → Batch Link… (also in the Batch menu) finds sheet references printed on the drawings, such as
3/E4.10,SEE DWG E103,DETAIL 2 / A-501and drawing lists, and links them to the sheets of the active set. Scope: This document, Open files of the active set or All files of the active set (opens them). Replace links from earlier Batch Link runs avoids duplicates. The result lists links created, already linked and unresolved references (Export CSV); Save changed files saves them all. - Click a link hotspot to follow it,
Shift+click to select it, right-click for options. A link markup follows with a double-click (Select tool) or right-click → Follow link. - View → Back (
Alt+←) and View → Forward (Alt+→) go back and forth between the places you visited.
Capture a region
Edit → Capture region (Ctrl+Shift+X): drag a box. Choose the Resolution and whether to add a Source caption (sheet, revision, file, page, date), then Copy (to paste into an email or document), Save PNG, or Place as image (click where it goes). Edit → Place last capture places it again.
Measurement values in replies
In Properties, a measurement shows its Measurement token. Copy it into any reply, or click Reply with value: the reply shows the current measured value. Review → Freeze measurement values in replies turns them into fixed numbers (useful before sending).
Review packages for consultants
- Review → Export review package…: give a Package name, Revision and who it was Sent to; choose the Layers to include and whether to Freeze measurement values in replies. Export saves a copy with your markups as normal PDF comments (not flattened), ready for Revu or Acrobat. The package id and revision travel inside the file.
- When the consultant sends it back: Review → Import returned comments… and pick the returned PDF.
- The preview sorts what came back: New comments, Edited by the reviewer, Replies, Status changes, Possible duplicates, Not importable and Not in the returned file (kept here). Tick what you want and click Merge selected.
Comments missing from the returned file are never treated as deletions.
Submittal stamps
- Review → Submittal stamp…
- Choose the Template and the Disposition, fill in the fields.
- Place on page, then click where the stamp's top-left corner goes.
The stamp shows the review decision recorded in iCOS or the submittal log; it presents that decision and is not a separate approval. Review → Stamp templates… edits templates: the built-in one can't be changed, so Duplicate it and change Heading, Fine print, Dispositions and Fields. Default values may use {date}, {author} and {project}.
As-built redlines and record drawings
- Set your name in Settings first: verifications are recorded with the reviewer's name.
- Review → As-built redline mode: new markups are proposed field redlines. The status bar shows AS-BUILT. In Properties choose the Redline kind (Add, Delete, Note) and see who drew it and its history.
- Existing markups: right-click → Mark as as-built redline.
- Verify: right-click → Verify as-built; Reopen (proposed) sends it back.
- Review → Record drawing package… creates a new PDF with the redlines flattened and a RECORD DRAWING stamp on each sheet. Options: Include proposed (not yet verified) redlines, Only sheets with redlines, Remove other comments from the record copy, Stamp text and Stamp position. The original drawings are not changed; a record of who verified what, when and from which file is attached.
Drawing review checks
Review → Drawing review (Pro profiles) runs checks without AI on a Set or a Document: duplicate sheet numbers, pages without a sheet number, drawing list vs. sheets, possible missing sheets, unresolved sheet references, broken links, links to superseded sheets, markups on superseded sheets, schedule ↔ plan tags (pick a fixture schedule) and RFIs in changed areas. Click Run checks, then click a finding to go there.
